The European lynx, the bison, the wolf, the wolverine, and the brown bear are the “The Big 5 of Europe”– the continent’s five most impressive wild mammals. The Lynx is classified into the order of carnivores in the cat family. Today lynx are distributed over most of the Holarctic and include four species: the Eurasian lynx, the Iberian lynx, the Canada lynx and the bobcat. Two of these species are present in Europe – the Eurasian lynx and the Iberian lynx. The Eurasian species is the only one living in Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Slovakia and Romania.
