“May the Fourth be with you” – On the occasion of the annual “STAR WARS™ Day” on May the 4th, the New Zealand Mint released this special edition in the STAR WARS™ collection. The coin struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver is dedicated to the popular droid C-3PO™. The gold plating makes the fearful but lovable droid appear even more realistic. Another special characteristic of the coin is the shape in the “Chibi Art” style – an effect by which a strong belittlement of the depicted characters is achieved. The unusual Chibi shape as well as the gilding makes this C-3PO™ silver coin a highlight for every STAR WARS™ fan and coin collector. The reverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. as well as the denomination and year of issue. The mintage is limited to only 2,000 pieces worldwide. C-3PO™, often just called 3PO, is a protocol droid constructed by Anakin Skywalker™ on the desert planet of Tatooine. Together with his partner R2-D2™, he was involved in numerous significant events in galactic history from the last days of the Old Republic to the First Order. The uniquely shaped coin is delivered in the original box from the New Zealand Mint including a certificate of authenticity.
