Original Buddies – Pluto

To celebrate the 90th anniversary of Pluto, the NZMint has struck this Disney coin from one ounce 99.9% silver in color. The motive features Mickey hugging his original buddy Pluto. Additionally, the inscription “ORIGINAL BUDDIES” is engraved on the background. The reverse shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination and year of issue. Pluto is a special character from Disney, because unlike many other characters he is not anthropomorphic. Pluto was named after the celestial body Pluto, which was discovered in 1930, the same year that Disney invented the figure. The limited mintage of only 1.930 pieces worldwide represents the year in which Pluto first appeared. The silver coin in proof quality is delivered in the original wooden box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the NZMint.
